Starting a new exercise regime with your dog this January?

Read on for some top tips

  • Don’t over do it, exercise your dog within their limits
  • MAKE ALLOWANCES for their breed, health, fitness and age
  • Go at your dog’s pace, let them take as many rest breaks as they wish
  • CHECK THE WEATHER, and plan ahead
  • Keep an eye on your dog, look for signs of tiredness or lameness
  • STOP IMMEDIATELY, if you have any concerns
  • Get them Vaccinated, your dog can pick up infections from contact with other dogs
  • PRACTICE THEIR RECALL, and other commands such as ‘drop’ or ‘leave’
  • Get them microchipped, and make sure they’re wearing a collar
  • DON’T WALK THEM STRAIGHT AFTER A MEAL. This puts them at risk of GDV (bloat)
  • Avoid too much ball throwing, it puts abnormal pressure on the joints and might increase their risk of Osteoarthritis
  • BEWARE OF POTENTIAL DANGERS, ie, blue-green algae, frozen ponds, acorns, adder bites
  • Know the signs if something isn’t right, and if in doubt, seek Veterinary advice
