With so much to plan, do and organise it can be easy to forget the risks to our pets both during the winter and at Chrismas. There are a wide range of items that your pet could get within easy reach of that are toxic or perhaps even deadly, even in small quantities.

Common items that may be found on your regular or festive shopping list can be found in the list below:

• Stuffing
• Mince pies
• Christmas cake
• Sultanas
• Chocolates
• Red wine
• Grapes
• Onions and garlic
• Blue cheese
• Cooked bones
• Holly
• Ivy
• Lillies
• Pinecones
• Poinsettia and Mistletoe
• Batteries
• Pine needles
• Christmas decorations including tinsel
• Salt dough ornaments
• Car anti-freeze (take care to wash away spills with a hose pipe or watering can)
• Don’t allow your dog to drink from puddles when out on a walk

If you do think that your dog or cat has eaten something toxic act quickly to stop them eating anymore and phone us to tell us what they have eaten, most importantly bringing labels, and samples with you (in a container if safe to do so).
