Commemorating servicemen, women and animals lost in conflict
The Purple Poppy is a symbol of remembrance for animals that served during wartime, and was created on the principle of the traditional red remembrance poppy for Remembrance Day. In contemporary service, most animals are military working dogs. Historically the greatest number of animal casualties in conflict have been horses and ponies. At Droves we are proud to be supporting the Royal British Legion and Twigs Community Garden this year in the sale of hand-knitted Purple Poppies. We will also be donating the proceeds from the Purple Poppies sold in our branches to the Royal British Legion.
We are pleased to announce that we raised over £480 in the sale of our Purple Poppies this year! and have donated an incredible £240 to the Royal British Legion and £240 to Twigs Community Garden in Swindon who work with people experiencing mental health challenges to work on outdoors projects in their community gardens in Cheney Manor Swindon.
We also raised a fantastic £47.55 in the sale of Red Poppies in our Hospital which has also been donated to the Royal British Legion.
Our Fundraising work with both local and National charities will continue into 2023, so watch this space for information on our chosen Charity to fundraise for in the next few weeks!
